GOD is on a mission! - In the Earth
- In you & me

God’s Agenda: Only Christ Can Remain

Jonathan Brickley 10.02.16

1) What is the mission on Earth & why is there a mission? A) - How is he accomplishing it (3 creations)

2) What is the mission in you & me? A) - How is he accomplishing it

1) What is the mission on Earth ?
Habakuk 2:14
- “For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.”

I Cor 15:28 When all things are subjected to him, then the Son himself will also be subjected to him who put all things in subjection under him, that God may be all in all.

- Why is there a mission in the first place?
- Satan Fell! The earth is dark! The knowledge of His glory is NOT covering the earth and all things are not subjected to Him and He is not currently everyone’s all in all.

1A) How is He accomplishing it on Earth?

- With, Through & In a man.
- God is ALWAYS looking for a man - WHY?
- Partnership. > Partnership on the mission of bringing Him glory.

- Partnership in bringing an out-of control enemy under subjection (Rev 12) - The very Godhead IS partnership
- It is His nature in essence.

Throughout scripture we see God using men to accomplish His divine purpose. Seeking them out. Preparing them. Walking in relationship with them.

- None were perfect but ALL had exemplary qualities - all pointing to Christ.

- Abraham’s Faith - Joseph’s Purity - Moses’ Humility

- Job’s Patience - Daniel’s Obedience - David’s Bravery
- Solomon’s Wisdom

All point to Christ! Each man has good qualities - all are summed up into a man! A man created to fulfill God’s purposes.

God seeking a man led to: a) Creation b) Incarnation c) Formation of the Church - Adam - Christ - “one new man”

A) Creation - Adam. A created being CHOSEN to fulfill God’s Mission.
Gen 1:26 "Then God said, “Let us make man (hebrew = "adam”) in our image, after our

likeness. And let them have dominion...
Dominion = “Supreme authority. Complete & absolute rule & ownership. Power to rule.”

THIS is what the RACE of man was given to accomplish God’s mission. DOMINION.

We were CREATED for ruling & reigning. — Be Fruitful / Multiply / Fill / Subdue / Rule

“Man was Created & Blessed to Subdue & Rule over an out-of-control enemy WHILE fruitfully multiplying and “FILLING” the earth (with......."the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as waters cover the sea”)”

But the first man Adam failed.

HE FAILED. THE Old man MUST GO! He is done. Hopeless. Inadequate & UNABLE to fulfill God’s mission.

- Not just sin problems and bad habits that God is done with. He is done with the RACE of Adam.
- We were born in “the body of Adam” - Collectively the world. Body of Adam = One.
- Adam is the head of the body. All the parts move @ it’s command.

- Now it’s no longer a matter of Good or Evil, Right or Wrong. ONLY family lineage matters now.

B) Incarnation - Christ.
- Christ came in flesh as 2nd Adam to fulfill God’s mission.

I Jn 3:8 - The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy (undo) the works of the Devil. (and He Did!)

- On the Cross he Subdued and Ruled over the enemy and received back what we lost = DOMINION.

(Mt 28) “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me”

C) The Church - One new man
- Christ the 2nd Adam is now Collectively the Body of Christ - the Church

Eph 2:14-15 For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility by abolishing the law of commandments expressed
in ordinances, that he might create in himself one new man in place of the two, so making peace...

- Christ is the head & the whole body moves @ His command. He MUST be head of all things!!

Col 1:18 - And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent.

* Brings us to 2nd Point:

2) What is the mission in you & Me?

= To fully form Christ in us (Bring His life to bear through us)
- To Completely do away with ALL that is not of Christ in us. - ADAM MUST GO! - John the baptist (Jn 3) “HE must increase, I must decrease”

- Nothing but Christ matters to God anymore.

- BOTH aspects of the natural man (Good side & bad side) HAVE to go!

  • -  It was 15 years AFTER David was anointed “king” that he began to rule

  • -  During that time Saul warred after David! Tried to destroy him! (flesh vs spirit)

    - Same with Christ in us sometimes!

    - Remember: David could not come rule & reign in the palace while Saul remained there. - ONLY after Saul was gone could David take the throne

2B) How will God help us finish the mission of PURGING us of ourselves and FORMING Christ in us?

    - Discipline for our rebellion - Trains us to renounce ungodliness & disobedience
    - Failure from our own efforts - Helps remove the mixture of reliance on our strength
    - Difficult people around us - Purifies us to see ourselves as God sees us. Plank in eye

    revealed!

  • -  All summed up in : SUFFERING

  • -  All suffering serves to keep us humble & dependent on Christ in us

  • -  Gets us to the place of CRYING out for a new place in the Lord.
