February 21, 2016      |     By: Sam McVay, Jr.      |      Category: Sermons

Jonathan encourages us to not neglect our giftings, as Satan desires us to; but to use them as the Lord desires us to. Sam follows up with a hopeful word on how to overcome insecurity and the schemes of the enemy while using our giftings.

Romans 12:6
God’s Purpose for our spiritual gifts:                That we USE them
                          Devil’s purpose for our spiritual gifts:               That we DON’T use them
Ephesians 6:11-12
Put on the whole armor of God THAT you may be able to stand AGAINST THE SCHEMES (strategies / wiles) of the Devil, FOR we do not wrestle against flesh and blood BUT against…..
We ARE wrestling!  We ARE in a battle!
Ignorance = Losing
Scheme:   “A clever and often dishonest plan to do or get something”
II Cor 2:10-11
Forgive……so that we will not be outwitted (possible) by Satan:
For we are not ignorant (possible) of his “designs” (Schemes/Devices/Strategies)
“Outwitted”  =   “Taken Advantage Of”
Greek  =  Cheating someone out of something that belongs to them
So, IF we are ignorant, we CAN be cheated/outwitted.
The gifts BELONG to us!   Given to us by God to be USED
Spiritual Gifts are incredible!    Spiritual Gifts are valuable!
Parable of Talents (Mt 25)
Talent = a monetary unit worth approximately 20 years of wages for a day laborer (6,000 denarii)
 2014 National Median Household Income = $53,657
1 Talent = $1,073,140        2 Talents = $2,146,280      5 Talents = $5,365,700
Who was the "Wicked and Slothful Servant” ?

Let Us Use Them!

Matthew 16:13-19
13 Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?”
14 And they said, “Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”
15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”
16 Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
17 And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven.
18 And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”
1 Peter 2:4-5
4 As you come to him, a living stone rejected by men but in the sight of God chosen and precious,
5 you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
Romans 12:3-8
3 For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned.
4 For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function,
5 so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.
6 Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith;
7 if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching;
8 the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.
