Romans 6:14

For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.

The first step in gaining victory over sin is getting over deception about sin.

Sin is an active soul-disease which will always produce death.

James 1:14-15

But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. 15 Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death.

Romans 8:2

For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.

Sin kills the glory of God.

Romans 3:23

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

Sin kills fellowship between God and man.

Ephesians 2:1-3

And you were dead in the trespasses and sins  2 in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience—  3 among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind.

Sin kills relationship between men.

Sin kills body, soul, and spirit eternally.

Sin is a producer - Romans 7:8

Romans 7:8

But sin, seizing an opportunity through the commandment, produced in me all kinds of covetousness. For apart from the law, sin lies dead.

Sin is a deceiver - Romans 7:11

Romans 7:11

For sin, seizing an opportunity through the commandment, deceived me and through it killed me.

Sin is a killer - Romans 7:11

Sin is the worst disease on the planet and the most sure killer, and yet it is embraced, played with, practiced, and sold as the highest human right and pleasure.

What do you believe about sin?

What is your perception of what it produces?

Is your mind deceived or in truth about sin?

The second step in gaining victory over sin is understanding Jesus and his victory over sin.

Jesus - the name is the mission: Matthew 1:21

Matthew 1:21

She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”

Jesus saves the sinner to the uttermost by defeating the penalty and power of sin.

Hebrews 7:25

Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.

Penalty paid for: Hebrews 9:22 & 9:11-12

Hebrews 9:22

Indeed, under the law almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.

Hebrews 9:11-12

But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things that have come, then through the greater and more perfect tent (not made with hands, that is, not of this creation)  12 he entered once for all into the holy places, not by means of the blood of goats and calves but by means of his own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption.

Power of sin broken: Romans 6:14, 17-18

Romans 6:14, 17-18

For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.

17 But thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed, 18 and, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness.

The third step to gaining victory over sin is simply faith in Christ as your victory.

Romans 1:16-17

For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.  17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.”

1 John 5:4

For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.

1 Corinthians 15:57

But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Victory is a gift to be received from Christ not a goal to be attained by effort.
