The War Against Prayer
1) Prayers can be hindered
2) Prayers are often hindered by our own lives
Five Hindrances to Prayer
5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.
6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind.
7 For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord;
Can He do this thing?
Will He do this thing?
2) Selfish Motives
3 You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions.
And whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father also who is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses
4) Cherishing Sin
If I had cherished iniquity in my heart, the Lord would not have listened.
1 John 3:22
and whatever we ask we receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do what pleases him.
If one turns away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer is an abomination.
5) Dishonoring Your Spouse
1 Peter 3:7
Likewise, husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way, showing honor to the woman as the weaker vessel, since they are heirs with you[a] of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered.
Two Keys to Prayer
1 John 5:14-15
14 And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us.
15 And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.
