1 John 4:18 (ESV)
There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.
1 John 4:18 (Amplified)
There is no fear in love [dread does not exist], but full-grown (complete, perfect) love turns fear out of doors and expels every trace of terror! For fear brings with it the thought of punishment, and [so] he who is afraid has not reached the full maturity of love [is not yet grown into love’s complete perfection].
Perfected means "to be made complete" or "to mature in”
Fear is the culture of the enemy. He moves in it like the Spirit moves in faith.
The enemy is tempting us and afflicting us with fear over:
According to 1 John 4:18 - fear cannot co-exist with love, and love actually "casts out” or “expels” fear, dread, anxiety, and terror.
There is war from the enemy on our perfecting in love.
To perfect in love we must:
1. Pray for heart-revelation of the immeasurable love of God
may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, 19 and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
2. Meditate on the love of God
We have thought on your steadfast love, O God, in the midst of your temple.
3. Abide in the love of God
1 John 4:16-17 (Amplified)
And we know (understand, recognize, are conscious of, by observation and by experience) and believe (adhere to and put faith in and rely on) the love God cherishes for us. God is love, and he who dwells and continues in love dwells and continues in God, and God dwells and continues in him. 17 In this [union and communion with Him] love is brought to completion and attains perfection with us, that we may have confidence for the day of judgment [with assurance and boldness to face Him], because as He is, so are we in this world.
