Boldly Overcoming Our Heart that Condemns Us
August 03, 2014      |     By: Sam McVay, Jr.      |      Category: Sermons

It is vital that we learn how to boldly overcome the condemnation that comes from the enemy and our hearts in order for us to experience real encounter with his transforming presence and grace.

1 John 3:19-22

By this we shall know that we are of the truth and reassure our heart before him; 20 for whenever our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and he knows everything. 21 Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence before God; 22 and whatever we ask we receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do what pleases him.

Many believers live with not only the enemy condemning them but also with a heart that continually condemns them.

Under this “judgment sentence” the disciple loses confidence to boldly approach the Lord for grace in time of need.

It is vital that we learn how to boldly overcome the condemnation that comes from the enemy and our hearts in order for us to experience real encounter with his transforming presence and grace.

Faith in the blood and Confession of sin release us from condemnation:

1 John 1:8 - 2:2

If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

2:1 My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. 2 He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.

We are no longer powerless

Romans 8:1-2

There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.

We must grow in boldness and courage, based on Jesus’ work, to approach and worship the Lord.

Hebrews 10:19-22

Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, 20 by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, 21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.
