Stand therefore, having fastened the belt of truth.. Eph. 6:14
All of the parts of the armor of God are essential. It would be hard to say that one is more important than the other. But it is interesting to me that the belt of truth is listed first. Again, I am not saying it is most important but I think it is right to say that it is “first in importance”.
Truth in the greek can also be translated- reality. That means that truth is not just a list of information but is more clearly the articulation of what is actually real. Jesus calls the Holy Spirit the Spirit of Truth in John 14:17. I believe the Spirit led Paul to list the belt of truth first because all the rest of the armor is useless and possibly misused by a lying enemy unless they are rooted in God’s reality.
Salvation, love, faith, healing, prophecy, scripture, prayer, worship, etc., are all going to be misused if not secured by the belt of truth. The enemy would love to deceive us, not just away from these things but also in the midst of these things. The enemy has as much to say about salvation, love, faith, healing, prophecy, scripture, prayer, worship, etc, as the Spirit does. He just lies about them so as to remove us from truth and thus the glory of God.
* Let us be lovers of the truth: embracing the word by the teaching of the Spirit in all that we do.
* Let us be prayers for the truth: diligently asking the Father to lead and keep us in the truth.
* Let us be practicers of the truth: rejecting any form of lying or deceit in our practical lives.
