An equipping ministry to Disciple the Church.
A mission base to Send the Church.
Along with teaching, prayer, miracles, and discipling, one of Jesus’ central commissioned activities on earth was: suffering.
It was prophesied –
Isaiah 53:3, 10
He was despised and rejected by men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief; and as one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
10 Yet it was the will of the Lord to crush him; he has put him to grief; when his soul makes an offering for guilt, he shall see his offspring; he shall prolong his days; the will of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.
Jesus was perfected through suffering –
For it was fitting that he, for whom and by whom all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory, should make the founder of their salvation perfect through suffering.
It was walked out - birth, temptation, life, rejection by followers, flogging and crucifixion.
It is a central call upon his followers:
Brother will deliver brother over to death, and the father his child, and children will rise against parents and have them put to death, 22 and you will be hated by all for my name's sake. But the one who endures to the end will be saved. 23 When they persecute you in one town, flee to the next, for truly, I say to you, you will not have gone through all the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes. 24 “A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master.
I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”
For it has been granted to you that for the sake of Christ you should not only believe in him but also suffer for his sake
