Notes

Isaiah 55:8-9 (ESV)
8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord.
9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Psalm 27:11a (ESV)
11 Teach me your way, O Lord, …

“WAY” in Hebrew is
derek: way, road, distance, journey, manner

His ways would include:
1) His principles and Laws
2) Jesus - John 14:6
3) His call on our lives
4) But also his series of dealings and delays with us on our spiritual journey.

Heard the Lord say this week:
"Many of my people love Me but hate My ways.”

There is rampant controversy with the "ways of the Lord" in the body of Christ.

The Bride in the Song of Songs feels this way about the call of the Bridegroom in Chapter 2.

Song of Songs 2:8-17 (ESV)
(Bride)
8 The voice of my beloved! Behold, he comes, leaping over the mountains, bounding over the hills.
9 My beloved is like a gazelle or a young stag. Behold, there he stands behind our wall, gazing through the windows, looking through the lattice.
10 My beloved speaks and says to me:
(Bridegroom)
“Arise, my love, my beautiful one, and come away,
11 for behold, the winter is past; the rain is over and gone.
12 The flowers appear on the earth, the time of singing has come, and the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land.
13 The fig tree ripens its figs, and the vines are in blossom; they give forth fragrance. Arise, my love, my beautiful one, and come away.
14 O my dove, in the clefts of the rock, in the crannies of the cliff, let me see your face, let me hear your voice, for your voice is sweet, and your face is lovely.
15 Catch the foxes for us, the little foxes that spoil the vineyards, for our vineyards are in blossom.”
16 My beloved is mine, and I am his; he grazes among the lilies.
17 Until the day breathes and the shadows flee, turn, my beloved, be like a gazelle or a young stag on cleft mountains.

Song of Songs 3:1-2 (ESV)
1 On my bed by night I sought him whom my soul loves; I sought him, but found him not.
2 I will rise now and go about the city, in the streets and in the squares; I will seek him whom my soul loves. I sought him, but found him not.

She proclaims passionate love for him in Chapter 1 but when he, on the hills and mountains, calls her to another way with him she just talks about her love for him while rejecting his ways.

To love the Lord with our ALL includes not just the (1) passionate adoration of his magnificence but also the (2) glad submission to His ways.

The enemy and our flesh are wreaking havoc on us because of our “controversy” with the Lord’s WAYS.

Bitterness, anger, distrust, and hopelessness can fill the heart of a disciple rejecting the Lord’s ways with him.

Maturity of TRUST includes not only knowing God has the power to do good, but also that the way He is dealing with us - is good!

How:
1) Surrendering to Sovereignty
2) Remember that you "see in part"
3) Know that Love drives all that He does
4) Believe that His wisdom fills His ways
5) Walk by Faith and not by Sight
