Ephesians 2:11-13 (ESV)
11 “Therefore remember that at one time you Gentiles in the flesh, called "the uncircumcision" by what is called the circumcision, which is made in the flesh by hands—
12 remember that you were at that time separated from Christ, alienated from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world.
13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.”

Since the fall of man God has dealt with man on the basis of covenants!

I think the best way to describe a biblical covenant is a "blood contract" or "blood promise.”

Genesis 3:21 (ESV)
21 “And the Lord God made for Adam and for his wife garments of skins and clothed them.”

Genesis 4:4 (ESV)
4 “and Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat portions. And the Lord had regard for Abel and his offering,”

Genesis 8:20-22 (ESV)
20 “Then Noah built an altar to the Lord and took some of every clean animal and some of every clean bird and offered burnt offerings on the altar.
21 And when the Lord smelled the pleasing aroma, the Lord said in his heart, "I will never again curse the ground because of man, for the intention of man's heart is evil from his youth. Neither will I ever again strike down every living creature as I have done. 22 While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, shall not cease."”

Genesis 15:9-12, 17-18 (ESV)
9 “He said to him, "Bring me a heifer three years old, a female goat three years old, a ram three years old, a turtledove, and a young pigeon."
10 And he brought him all these, cut them in half, and laid each half over against the other. But he did not cut the birds in half.
11 And when birds of prey came down on the carcasses, Abram drove them away.
12 As the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell on Abram. And behold, dreadful and great darkness fell upon him.
17 When the sun had gone down and it was dark, behold, a smoking fire pot and a flaming torch passed between these pieces.
18 On that day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying, "To your offspring I give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river Euphrates,”

God has not changed His method but He did change the “means” of the covenant! The Father cut covenant in His Son!

Hebrews 9:12, 15 (ESV)
12 “He entered once for all into the holy places, not by means of the blood of goats and calves but by means of his own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption.
15 Therefore he is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance, since a death has occurred that redeems them from the transgressions committed under the first covenant.”

The covenant is entered into by repentance and faith and brings to Gentiles the benefits of the Adamic and Abrahamic covenants!

Our confidence is to be placed in the covenant cut in Jesus!

In Him we have:
- Access for worship
- Life and power by the Spirit
- Protection and Favor in life
- Confidence in every battle
- A sure future
