Moving from Deliverance to Presence
July 29, 2017      |     By: Sam McVay, Jr.      |      Category: Sermons

The Lord's primary purpose is not your deliverance but rather His dwelling in and with you. Sam unpacks "prophetic patterns" found in Eden, the Tabernacle, and Jesus that reveal how to go deep in the Presence of the Lord.

Exodus 3:7 (ESV)
7 Then the Lord said, “I have surely seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters. I know their sufferings,

Exodus 25:1-9 (ESV)
1 The Lord said to Moses,
2 “Speak to the people of Israel, that they take for me a contribution. From every man whose heart moves him you shall receive the contribution for me.
3 And this is the contribution that you shall receive from them: gold, silver, and bronze,
4 blue and purple and scarlet yarns and fine twined linen, goats' hair,
5 tanned rams' skins, goatskins, acacia wood,
6 oil for the lamps, spices for the anointing oil and for the fragrant incense,
7 onyx stones, and stones for setting, for the ephod and for the breastpiece.
8 And let them make me a sanctuary, that I may dwell in their midst.
9 Exactly as I show you concerning the pattern of the tabernacle, and of all its furniture, so you shall make it.

There is no time in the Old Testament like the time of Moses as it relates to the supernatural manifestation of the presence of God.

In this time we see:
1. Supernatural ten pagues for deliverance
2. Supernatural splitting of the sea and the closing of the sea to destroy enemies
3. Forty years of of daily mana
4. Forty years of “Fire and Cloud” presence to lead a nation
5. Moses’ glowing face

This time begins with the deliverance of the people of God from Egypt.
But we find out that the deliverance is just the beginning of the Lord's work in his peoples’ lives.
Later we find that He has a heavenly purpose and a heavenly pattern that will invade and consume the earth and it’s peoples.

Two things beyond Deliverance are revealed:
1. The Heavenly Purpose revealed is - that He longs to DWELL with His people.
Exodus 25:8 (ESV)
8 And let them make me a sanctuary, that I may dwell in their midst.

This whole age will end with the proclamation of the fulfillment of God’s passionate heart desire

Revelation 21:1-3 (ESV)
1 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more.
2 And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God.

2. A Heavenly Pattern Revealed is manifest through the Tabernacle.
Exodus 25:9 (ESV)
9 Exactly as I show you concerning the pattern of the tabernacle, and of all its furniture, so you shall make it.

Hebrews 8:5 (ESV)
5 They serve a copy and shadow of the heavenly things. For when Moses was about to erect the tent, he was instructed by God, saying, “See that you make everything according to the pattern that was shown you on the mountain.”

The Pattern revealed in the tabernacle reveals the glory fulfilled in Christ!
Outer Court - Brazen Altar & Laver speak of the payment for and cleaning from sin though the Christ and Him crucified
Holy Place - Candelabrum, table of Shewbread, and Altar of Incense speak of the spiritual light, food, and intercession of Jesus
Holy of Holies - the Ark of the Covenant speaks of Jesus being the fulfillment of all that God requires and where we meet the manifest presence of God in the Holy Spirit.

The Lord had, from the beginning, revealed His desire to dwell (tabernacle) with Man:
1. Eden was the first place of tabernacling with man.
Genesis 3:8 (ESV)
8 And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden.

2. The Tabernacle is made not for the purpose of religious activity but for man: for the dwelling of God among His people.

3. Jesus is the center fulfillment of the tabernacling of God.
John 1:14 (ESV)
14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt (tabernacled) among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

John 2:19-21 (ESV)
19 Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.”
20 The Jews then said, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and will you raise it up in three days?”
21 But he was speaking about the temple of his body.

4. Believers in Christ become the tabernacle of God in this age.
1 Corinthians 3:16 (ESV)
16 Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in you?

5. Heaven and Earth are joined at the end of this age culminating in the dwelling of God with man - Revelation 21

God wants to deliver you but that is simply the means to the end!
The end is > that God wants to dwell with you!
The Presence of the Father in Christ through the Spirit is your greatest reward and destiny.

The presence of Christ is what brings true deliverance:
1. Demons cried out
2. Sinners transformed
3. The dead raised
4. Armed soldiers fell down
5. Death was broken

The presence of Christ is what brings the true dwelling of God:
1. Father
John 14:8-9 (ESV)
8 Philip said to him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.”
9 Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?

2. Spirit
John 14:16-17 (ESV)
16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever,
17 even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.

John 16:7 (ESV)
7 Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you.

Receive the full deliverance that comes through Christ but do not stop there.
Receive His heart’s desire which is to dwell with you.
