Notes

1 Corinthians 1:9 (NIV)
9 God is faithful, who has called you into fellowship with His Son Jesus Christ our Lord.

He unceasingly pressed the issue of personal fellowship with Christ.

“The Great enemy to the Lord Jesus Christ in the present day is the conception of practical work that has NOT come from the New Testament - but from the systems of the world in which endless energy and activities are insisted upon - but NO private life with God.”
- Oswald Chambers

Our primary call must be kept primary.

KOINONIA (Gk) =  “To share together - take part together. Describing partnerships, marriages - interdependent relationships. Living in community together. Ultimately - holding something in common. (Having a common mother; a common purse)
- NEVER used to describe man’s relationship to God before the Holy Spirit’s coming
- primarily an ACTION word
- also translated “Contribution” “Sharing” and "Participation"

Partnering with Christ to fulfill God’s will.
Actively participating with Christ in accomplishing God’s will together!

John 15:15 (NIV)
15 I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.

I John 1:3-7 (NIV)
3 We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ.
4 We write this to make our joy complete.
5 This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.
6 If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth.
7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.

1 John 2:9-11 (NIV)
9 Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates a brother or sister is still in the darkness.
10 Anyone who loves their brother and sister lives in the light, and there is nothing in them to make them stumble.
11 But anyone who hates a brother or sister is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness. They do not know where they are going, because the darkness has blinded them.

1 John 4:20
20 Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen.

Horizontal Fellowship Only As Good As Vertical Fellowship

"Inner unity expressed outwardly.”

How is our fellowship maintained?  By the Holy Spirit!
2 Corinthians 13:14 (NIV)
14 May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
