Jesus’ High Priority upon of the Holy Spirit for the Disciples

John 16:6-7
6 But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart.
7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.

Luke 24:49
49 I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.”

Acts 1:4-8
4 On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about.
5 For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”
6 Then they gathered around him and asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?”
7 He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority.
8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Holy Spirit in Personal Life and Ministry of Jesus

Luke 1:34-35
34“How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?”
35 The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.

Luke 1:41-44
41 When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.
42 In a loud voice she exclaimed: “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear!
43 But why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
44 As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy.

Luke 3:21-22
21 When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too. And as he was praying, heaven was opened
22 and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.”

Luke 6:19
19 and the people all tried to touch him, because power was coming from him and healing them all.

Luke 8:43-46
43 And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years, but no one could heal her.
44 She came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak, and immediately her bleeding stopped.
45 “Who touched me?” Jesus asked. When they all denied it, Peter said, “Master, the people are crowding and pressing against you.”
46 But Jesus said, “Someone touched me; I know that power has gone out from me.

Holy Spirit Coming in a New Way through Jesus

John 7:37-39
37 On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink.
38 He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”
39 But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet ((given)), because Jesus was not yet glorified.

Acts 2:32-33
32 God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of it.
33 Exalted to the right hand of God, he has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear.

1 Corinthians 15:45
45 So it is written: “The first man Adam became a living being;” the last Adam, a life-giving spirit

Three Relational Experiences for the Disciple to Have with the Holy Spirit

1. Sealed with the Spirit
Ephesians 1:13
13 And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit,

We are sealed as a mark of ownership and a means of protection by the Holy Spirit.

2. Filled With the Spirit
Ephesians 5:18
18 Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit,

The command in Greek is a present imperative and does not describe a onetime “filling” but a regular pattern of life.

3. Led by the Spirit
Galatians 5:16, 18
16 So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.
18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

Galatians 5:25
25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.

Personal interaction and following of the Spirit in the directions and decisions of our lives.
