Notes

Galatians 5:1 (NIV)
1 It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.

Galatians 5:1 (ESV)
1 For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.

Yoke = "A wooden bar or frame by which two animals (as oxen) are joined at the heads or necks for working together"

Christ's Job vs. Our Job

Question #1 - WHY would we submit again to a yoke of slavery?
1) Not standing firm in our sonship
2) Slavery “feels” normal
3) Thinking wrongly

Question #2 - WHY would the enemy try to get us back under a yoke of slavery?
Acts 15:10 (NIV)
10 Now then, why do you try to test God by putting on the necks of Gentiles a yoke that neither we nor our ancestors have been able to bear?

Matthew 23:1-4 (NIV)
1 Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples:
2 “The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat.
3 So you must be careful to do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach.
4 They tie up heavy, cumbersome loads and put them on other people’s shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to lift a finger to move them.

Constantly bearing burdens means we are not at REST

Question #3 - WHY would the enemy attack on the True place of rest?
Hebrews 4:9-11 (NIV)
9 There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God;
10 for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works, just as God did from his.
11 Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will perish by following their example of disobedience.

Work from the place of God's Rest means this:
- God's work
- God's way
- God's timetable
- God's results
- God's glory

Matthew 11:25-30 (NIV)
25 At that time Jesus said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children.
26 Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do.
27 “All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.
28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Why come?  …to Partner
Why partner?  …to Learn from Him
Learn what?  …to become like Him
Why become like Jesus?  …to Know God!

I John 5:3 (NIV)
3 In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome.
