An equipping ministry to Disciple the Church.
A mission base to Send the Church.
I. It is impossible to fully understand God’s purpose and ways apart from understanding the history of Israel.
Their call, covenant, laws, and prophecies set the stage for the coming of Jesus and the birth of the church. In fact, Paul referred to their history as an example in:
1 Corinthians 10:1-6
1 For I do not want you to be ignorant of the fact, brothers and sisters, that our ancestors were all under the cloud and that they all passed through the sea.
2 They were all baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea.
3 They all ate the same spiritual food
4 and drank the same spiritual drink; for they drank from the spiritual rock that accompanied them, and that rock was Christ.
5 Nevertheless, God was not pleased with most of them; their bodies were scattered in the wilderness.
6 Now these things occurred as examples to keep us from setting our hearts on evil things as they did.
21 Tell me, you who want to be under the law, are you not aware of what the law says?
22 For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by the slave woman and the other by the free woman.
23 His son by the slave woman was born according to the flesh, but his son by the free woman was born as the result of a divine promise.
24 These things are being taken figuratively: The women represent two covenants. One covenant is from Mount Sinai and bears children who are to be slaves: This is Hagar.
25 Now Hagar stands for Mount Sinai in Arabia and corresponds to the present city of Jerusalem, because she is in slavery with her children.
26 But the Jerusalem that is above is free, and she is our mother.
1 I speak the truth in Christ—I am not lying, my conscience confirms it through the Holy Spirit—
2 I have great sorrow and unceasing anguish in my heart.
3 For I could wish that I myself were cursed and cut off from Christ for the sake of my people, those of my own race,
4 the people of Israel. Theirs is the adoption to sonship; theirs the divine glory, the covenants, the receiving of the law, the temple worship and the promises.
5 Theirs are the patriarchs, and from them is traced the human ancestry of the Messiah, who is God over all, forever praised! Amen.
6 It is not as though God’s word had failed. For not all who are descended from Israel are Israel.
1. Adam > Seth > etc. >Enoch (who was no more)
2. Noah, three sons reboot of the earth
3. A Babel tendency in mankind
III. Simple History of Israel:
God calls out a chosen people among the races of men from the line of Shem to be blessed while Ham is cursed. Abraham is descended from Shem. God operates by blessing and covenant with a people while other nations are idol worshiping and cursed. All to speak of the Church.
1. Abraham is called & blessed, Promised Land & son. 2000 BC. Genesis 12
2. Abraham’s grandson, Jacob, is renamed Israel. Genesis 32:28
3. Israel becomes a large people while captive in Egypt. Exodus
4. Moses leads them out of Egyptian captivity. 1500 BC. Exodus
5. Joshua leads them back into Promise Land. Joshua
6. Israel is led by judges for 400 years. Judges
7. Israel is led by kings: Saul, David, etc. 400 years, 1000 BC. 1 Samuel
8. Israel is removed from land, taken captive in Babylon. 600 BC. Daniel
9. Remnant of Israel restored the land to build the Temple. 500 BC. Ezra
10 Israel is captured & ruled during silent years (400) before Jesus.
IV. God gives the Law and the Temple Worship to his covenant people. All to speak of God’s righteous standard and way to worship him - all fulfilled in Jesus.
V. God raises up Kings, Prophets, and Priests to represent and speak of Jesus.
